Abusive Supervision and Organizational Citizenship Behavior: Implications for HR Practitioners

Abstract: The present article aims to shed light on the concept of abusive supervision which is a growing organizational issue across the globe. Therein, the authors have attempted to underline some of the important scholarly findings and what they are suggesting particularly with regard to the effects of abusive supervision towards voluntary efforts for organizational betterment. The article elaborates on the growing concern of impolite, rude and hostile behaviours of supervising authorities towards their subordinates and how they could result critically for organizations aspiring to enhance citizenship behaviours. In parallel, the article also expounds on HRM as a strategic concept whilst unleashing on elements relating to technological primacy. The article aims to serve as a guideline for individuals enthusiastic to learn about the concept of abusive supervision and its consequences on individual citizenship behaviours towards the business. The paper concludes with implications for businesses in general and for HR practitioners in particular for better scholarly understanding of the discussed relationship.

Job Demands and Work Engagement: Call for More Urgent Empirical Attention

Abstract: The current papers aimed to drive the attention of employee wellbeing scholars on the concept of job demands. The author has worked to indicate that there has been a significant amount of attention paid to elements that could enhance individual psychological wellbeing at work, famously known as engagement. However, not equitable scholarly attention has been paid to the factors that act as depleting factors of psychological resourcefulness of individuals thus, resulting in decreasing employees` work engagement. Through performing critical review of promising literature on the topic, the current paper has underlined that job demands have a major role in deciding upon the level of engagement of an employee at work wherein, workload and emotional demands are the most critical ones. The paper has concluded by welcoming aspiring scholars on the topic to further study to help practitioners understand the consequences of job demands and how to go about avoiding them to ensure healthy levels of employees` work engagement.

Uncovering the Link between Strategic Human Resource Management and Crisis Management: Mediating Role of Organizational Resilience

Abstract: The paper has attempted to examine a critical link between the strategic human resource management and crisis management. In this, the authors have taken a major drive to statistically test mediation and moderation simultaneously. Drawing upon the normal accident theory, the present study examined the link between strategic human resource management (SHRM) and crisis management through the mediation of organizational resilience. By adopting quantitative research approach, the data were collected from 176 HR managers of textile firms in Pakistan through survey method. The data were analysed by employing PLS-SEM technique. Results revealed that SHRM is positively linked with crisis management through the mediating effect of organizational resilience. In general, the results revealed that organizational resilience plays a key role in facilitating the relationship between SHRM and crisis management. The paper forwards notable implications for theory and practice followed by scope for future studies to enthusiastic scholars in the domain of HRM, strategic HRM and crisis management.

From Perfection to performance: A Moderated Mediation process

Abstract: The Present study empirically examines the impact of perfectionist striving on active behavior and task performance. Work motivation used as a mediating mechanism and basic psychological needs employed as a moderator between perfectionist striving and workplace behaviors. It’s a moderated mediating study because of the interest of knowing the conditional nature of mediating variable. Self-determination theory has been employed as theoretical background of these relationships in order to have full and thorough understanding of the link from perfection to performance. Data were collected from 220 subordinates-supervisor matching dyads of engineers from different organizations of Pakistan using convenient sampling technique. Exploratory factor analysis and hierarchical regression used to check the direct relationships. Indirect macro used for mediating relations and process macro used for moderating relation of the study. Results supported the positive association of perfectionist striving with task performance and proactive behaviour. Furthermore, results also supported the mediating effect of work motivation. However, results could not predict the moderating role of basic psychological needs. Moreover, findings of present research bring an important implications for organizations to consider perfectionism as positive attitude because it relates to adaptive outcome and positive work behaviours such as performance.

Conceptualizing the Management of Online Public Relations among Public Relations Practitioners

Abstract: Modern technology has become a very researched area in PR. Nevertheless, the literature examining online PR still in its early levels. Internet has become essential and has initiate to revolutionize the PR industry. Despite the study of technology and its effect on PR, online PR remains a non-standardized concept used as the varied studies often rely on the specific conceptualization of the practitioners and his experience in this field. This paper intends to show the conceptualization of online public relations among public relation practitioners and illation the factors that led to the understanding or lack of understanding among the practitioners. The paper follows conventional structure to elaborate on the topic for future scholars through proving a critical insight. The paper offers insight o the management of online public relations among the public practitioners with a detailed review of prominent literature to encourage future scholars for empirical attention.

Impact of Work Life Balance on the Social Life of Workers Living in Lagos Metropolitan Borders

Abstract: The need to maintain proper work life balance is becoming increasingly important; it has motivated several academic research efforts. In the quest for Lagos transformation from a mega city to a smart city, work life balance issues as it has to do with housing, work and urban liveability remains a contemporary issue that calls for keen attention. The rate of population increase in Lagos is not commensurate with the availability and development of social infrastructure, which has caused a number of the workers gainfully employed in Lagos to seek such in nearby state - Ogun State, specifically border towns which includes Ota, Ifo, Mowe, Magboro, Ibafo, Agbara etc. Consequently, such employees face job stress and work-life conflict caused by long working hours, unrelenting traffic, early resumption and late closure at work. This research examined the plausible consequence of work life imbalance measured by job stress and work-life conflict on the social life measured by job satisfaction and wellbeing of such people. A sample of 242 respondents was selected for survey using Yaro Yamane random sampling method & Rao Soft sample estimation method. Primary method of data collection was used. A well-structured questionnaire was administered and interviews were conducted while responses were analysed using product moment correlation and linear regression. Results proved that work life balance has profound impacts on the social life of workers in Lagos Metropolitan borders. This paper recommends that individuals should take active roles in ensuring work life balance; organisations must proactively identify and understand demographic & work related factors; create supportive workplace policies; adopt & implement flexible work strategies and assume the responsibility of reducing/eliminating job stress. In addition, Government should intervene and initiate measures to tackle transportation inadequacies with legislations on provision of work life balance incentives for workers.
